Brora 30 Year Old
Taste the character and craft in every drop.

Region

Coastal highlands

Appearance

Rich amber with lingering beads.

Nose

Attractively sweet straight away, with a distant marine note, which builds later with coal smoke below. Then creamy and waxy; scented furniture polish and well-worn waxed jackets.

Body

Oily and rich.

Palate

Overt smokiness that drinks well at natural strength; sweet, some acidity, teeth-coating, mouth drying. Water brings out the oily, smooth mouthfeel.

Finish

Drying, medium to long and warming, with a distinct thread of smoke.

Information:

Distillery: Brora™

Age: 30 year old

Strength: 55.7% ABV

Place of Origin: Sutherland

Region: Coastal Highlands

Nose:

Attractively sweet straight away, with a distant marine note, which builds later. Coal smoke? Then creamy and waxy; scented furniture polish and well-worn waxed jackets. A mere dash of water introduces a more obvious waxy note, with cooked and dried fruits balanced by salty freshness. Light coconut. Becomes tantalisingly gamey and more smoky as it develops “like eating a mutton pie on a coal-fired paddle steamer”.

Palate

More overtly smoky. Drinks well at natural strength; sweet, some acidity, teeth-coating, mouth drying. Water brings out the oily, smooth mouthfeel, the flavour sweet to start, drying, then sweet again, with a delicious ‘spice-drawer’ taste (nutmeg or sandalwood) lending a slight ‘scented smoke’ feel. A robust, deep-textured dram.
