Celebrating the characters who made Lagavulin the icon it is today
At Lagavulin, we’re nothing without the people who bring our commitment to exceptional whisky to life. Episode 1 of our series explores the names and faces behind our world famous Single Malt, like Big Angus. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Big Angus has been a part of the Lagavulin family for 36 years. In a place steeped with passion, culture and heritage, we give viewers a firsthand look at the devotion and care that goes into each bottle of our premium Single Malt Scotch Whisky. As we celebrate our 200th Anniversary, we honour those who have made and continue to make Lagavulin legendary.
There’s more to a whisky distillery than vats and bottles. It embodies the history and pedigree of every bottle of Single Malt Scotch Whisky created within its walls. In Episode 2 we take a look at Lagavulin's distillery, which continues traditional working methods from the brand’s creation in 1816. We also find out how a visit from renowned whisky historian Alfred Barnard in the 1800s inspired the production of a unique 8-year-old single malt, designed to mark Lagavulin’s 200 year anniversary.
The Illeachs are known for their hospitality and community spirit. It infuses every bottle of Single Malt Scotch Whisky made on the Isle of Islay. In Episode 3 we see how Lagavulin’s workers are a key part of island life – from running a sea safari boat, playing live music and even working at the local undertakers. With the Isle of Islay at the heart of Lagavulin, it couldn’t be made anywhere else.
While we may do things a little differently than we did 200 years ago, the heart and soul of Lagavulin is still the same. In this episode, we explore the process that creates our truly unique and world famous Single Malt. In a place steeped in culture, passion and heritage it's easy to see how much devotion goes into the process of making a premium Single Malt Scotch Whisky such as Lagavulin. In our 200th Anniversary year we are celebrating the characters who made Lagavulin the Single Malt it is today.
Ivan Menezes, CEO of Diageo, visited Islay to officially announce the 200th Anniversary year and joined distillery staff in selecting a rare cask of Lagavulin to be used to raise funds for community benefit.
