The first cask-strength Talisker 8 yo released by the original distillers is inspired by the regular releases made before the late 1980s, and comes from deep-charred first fill ex-bourbon American oak hogsheads.
Deep, warm yellow gold.
Confident, with the key-note Talisker pepper.
Soft and light.
Silky and surprisingly sweet.
Long, with a fabulous balance of smoke, honeyed sweetness and salt.
Age: 8 years old, distilled in 2009
Strength: 59.4% ABV
Deep, warm yellow gold with amber lights.
Confident, with the key-note Talisker pepper. Sweet menthol rises in a peat-smoky top note, backed by hints of creamy toffee and cereal. Below this, fresh maritime notes of sandy beaches and sea salt on an oaky base, wreathed in more peat smoke.
Silky and surprisingly sweet. Gentle peat smoke; then lightly salty with a cranberry tartness, a vanilla-sweet warmth around chewy cereals and a sprinkling of ground hazelnut. Later, burnt pastry, before late peat smoke.
Long, with a fabulous balance of smoke, honeyed sweetness and salt; then spice, with light pine and menthol, above smooth liquorice bitterness, and a lingering smoke in the aftertaste.
