Linkwood

Linkwood 12 Year Old Flora & Fauna Single Malt Whisky, 70cl

A whole garden of fruit and flower scents in a smooth, long, complex yet wholly integrated Speyside of utter distinction. This 12-year-old single malt whisky has a rich and oily mouthfeel with nutty, cereal notes and an aromatic and dry finish.

Serving Suggestion: Linkwood works best served in a traditional whisky glass, neat or with a little water.

"Floral, grassy and fragrant on the nutty nose, while the slightly oily palate becomes increasingly sweet, ending up at marzipan and almonds. The relatively lengthy finish is quite dry and citric."

Gavin D Smith, Malt Whisky Yearbook 2015, p.152

"A classic example of a relatively light and fragrant whisky that has real complexity and a gorgeous feel. The perfect summertime dram."

Dave Broom 2002, Whisky Magazine, Issue 27

"Linkwood always evokes thoughts of sweetmeats. This one seems a particularly sweet interpetation."

Michael Jackson 2002, Whisky Magazine, Issue 22

"Sweet and squidgy with over-ripe melon and soft pear on the nose, and a delightful palate of marzipan, vanilla, green apples and a touch of spice. The finish is balanced, pleasant and very enticing."

Dominic Roskrow, Malt Whisky Yearbook 2015, p.152

"Sublime malt: one of the most glittering gems in the Diageo crown. 94.5 points"

Jim Murray 2013 Whisky Bible, p.170

Appearance

Old gold.

Body

Mouth-filling, smooth and medium-bodied.

Nose

The first impression is of fresh soft-fruits (but indistinguishable), with a hint of vanilla in the background. Then light cigar-box notes are perceptible, and a faint hint of expensive ladies' perfume. The whole effect is civilized, complex and tightly integrated. With water, it opens into carnations and lavender, with a whiff of perfumed smoke. There are traces of juicy green sticks, then cedar-wood, with undercurrents of pomander or dried orange peel.

Palate

Mouth-filling and smooth. Sweet, overall. Viscous, but fresh and clean: a pleasant acidity helps to maintain this.

Finish

Cedar notes emerge in the finish, which is long.
