Cragganmore 12 Year Old is one of our more complex malts and this limited edition is a continuation of the story. It’s matured in three stages to give a richer, creamier spirit. Specially selected casks of refill European/American have been chosen for their rich and fruity complexity and have been vatted together and then re-casked into conditioned American oak casks for several months in order to impart a pleasant creamy sweet spiciness to the spirit. Finally these casks are disgorged, blended and filled into European marrying casks allowing the spirit to gently rest for a few years to deliver a spirit that is more rich and complex and spicier than the Cragganmore 12 Year Old.
When it come to aromas,a neat serving of Cragganmore Distillery Only 2016 boasts aromas of rich preserve berry fruits with hints of caramel and spicy oak.
With the addition of water you find the berry fruits taking a back seat and fresher fruits, apples and oranges start to dominate. The toffee sweetness becomes more creamy and the spicy oak intensifies.
The flavour experience starts with a slightly peppery taste on the tip of the tongue but this disappears quickly and you are left with a creamy rich fruitiness with just a hint of burnt oak
The addition of water allows the fresher fruits to shine through. A rich warming slightly dry finish with a hint of liquorice and spice aftertaste.
