Mellow: slow, deep and ethereal. Fruity in the main, as candied orange peel, waxy red apple peel, sweet Muscat grapes, ripe red apple and tart green apple all emerge from a dense, sugary, scorched fruitcake layer. Warming and powerful, growing faintly spicy and earthy with a late scent of gorse flowers. Fresh and immediate with a little water, which adds a creamy note; now it evokes a fruit salad on crushed ginger nuts, lemon glazed Danish pastries; fresh cherries. Later, menthol-cool.
Smooth textured and coating, the taste starts hot and sweet, with suggestions of burnt orange peel, vanilla toffee and creamy coffee. Becoming fragrant and floral, as orange oil and Turkish delight appear, set against a charred and compelling burnt pastry bitterness and a rising oaky dryness. At reduced strength the texture remains soft, the taste sweet, yet now joined by bitter black coffee; herbal, and oily too, with cool liquorice.
