Royal Lochnagar

Discover Royal Lochnagar
Royal Lochnagar Distillery sits in the small village of Crathie in Aberdeenshire. Just one mile from Balmoral Castle, the distillery was founded in 1845 by John Begg and gained its “Royal” moniker after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited in 1848.
Royal Lochnagar is known for its butterscotch, treacle toffee flavour which gives a smooth mouthfeel and sharp, balanced finish.
Royal Lochnagar Distillery Production
Royal Lochnagar puts emphasis on traditional small-scale production at its distillery.
This means using two pagoda kiln heads and retaining the use of an open mash tun, which has been a time-honoured process in Highland whisky making. When these techniques are combined with the crystal-clear waters of the Scarnock springs, the result is a magnificent tasting dram.
Visit the Distillery
Visitors are invited into one of the smallest traditional distilleries still in operation and learn about the process up close. Tasting sessions offer whisky lovers the chance to experience some of the best single malt the Highlands has to offer.
