Sustainability at Oban Distillery

We’re delighted that our sustainability efforts at Oban Distillery have been recognised by the UK’s top eco-tourism body. We’ve been awarded the prestigious Green Tourism Gold award, the highest level of certification, for our commitment to sustainable tourism.

Sustainability has always been important to us. The distillery switched to biofuels in 2018, reducing its carbon footprint by 98%. In 2020, we also introduced a new water reduction initiative which allows us to save approximately 80,000 litres of water a week at the distillery. We’re also working with the world’s leading Scotch whisky, Johnnie Walker, to plant 189,000 trees in Ballygowan, across 85.5 hectares, to restore woodland and promote wildlife diversity in Argyll, as part of Johnnie Walker’s commitment to plant a million trees across Scotland by 2025.
