in brief… For the connoisseur.
in a sentence… Old and mature, but not showing its age. Subtle, unassuming, elegant, sophisticated – also inoffensive.
Deep and complex. Bosky and mossy, but with hedgerow flora and fruits (brambles, damson jam); sawn wood and minty-fresh pine resin; turned earth; behind this some deep toffee notes (treacle toffee?) and beyond that artists turpentine, which keeps it fresh and balances the wood. Changes and develops continually. With water, varnish advances (artist’s studio). Some coffee grounds, toffee, warm polythene, baked apple tart (with a scorched crust). Overall, sweet and deep. With slightly more water a hint of soft rubber and a waft of dry sherry.
"Complex nose with toasty notes mingling with honey, nuts and nougat with just a hint of aniseed. Rich and full in the mouth with impression of enormous malt content ! Hints of liquorice and touch of golden syrup. The massive malt mellows out to give beautiful balance and firm texture. A whole range of flavours appear in the mouth and carry through to long, comforting finish."
