People and places don't just shape a Single Malt Scotch Whisky's flavour. They change the course of its future. Get a taste of how the whisky you love today came to be, with this brief Strathmill timeline.
Strathmill is founded, not as a distillery but a cornmill.
Inspired by the whisky boom going on around them, the owners convert the mill into a distillery. At this time, it trades under the name Glenisla-Glenlivet, perhaps named for the river Isla which runs past the foot of the building.
Gin makes W & A Gilbey by the distillery and change the name to Strathmill.
Gilbey merges with United Wine Traders to make International Distillers & Vintners.
A second pair of stills is added to the distillery.
