A red brick wall of Glenkinchie distillery sits at the end of a path surrounded by colourful plants. A golden Johnnie Walker ‘Striding Man’ statue is at the end of the path, and the sign on the wall says ‘Glenkinchie’.

Glenkinchie Distillery & Visitor Centre

Located in the village of Pencaitland in East Lothian, just around 30 minutes from Edinburgh, Glenkinchie Distillery (pronounced: glen-KIN-chee) offers a rare glimpse into the world of Lowland Scotch whisky.

Founded in 1825 by brothers John and George Rate as the Milton Distillery before being renamed Glenkinchie in 1837, it remains one of the few surviving Lowland distilleries in Scotland. Often referred to as “The Edinburgh Malt,” Glenkinchie is known for its light, floral and grassy whisky style.

Today, visitors are invited to explore this historic distillery through guided tours and tastings that bring the heritage of Lowland whisky to life just beyond the capital.
