Caol Ila Distillery & Visitor Centre

Caol Ila Distillery has called the Isle of Islay home since 1846. Found near the village of Port Askaig, the distillery boasts sweeping views across the sea towards Jura. Pronounced “Cull-Eela” and meaning “Sound of Islay” in Gaelic, the distillery is one of the island’s largest producers of Scotch whisky.

Caol Ila takes full advantage of its coastal setting to produce whisky with a fresh, maritime character. The distillery produces both an unpeated and a peated version of its single malt, the latter of which showcases the area’s signature smoky flavour.

Visitors are invited to explore guided tours and tastings that reveal the craft behind one of Scotland’s most distinctive island malts.
