The Singleton
The Singleton Of Glen Ord 40 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl
The Epicurean Odyssey series was born to embody The Singleton's unique ambition to create a deeply enjoyable taste. Three unique product launches share a triptych of whisky richness, in this. The first whisky in the series, The Singleton 38 Year, delivers a highly decadent flavour profile based on baked apple and caramel nougat. Succeeding it, The Singleton 39 Year comes with juicy flavours of blackberries and muscovado crumble, followed by the intense and elegant The Singleton 40 Year, with a deep dark, sensual richness of velvety dark chocolate and juicy plums.
In this limited edition, our master blender Maureen Robinson took experimental secondary maturation in refillable casks to the extreme and made further improvements to create the most enjoyable kind of whisky, yet. Thus, for the grand finale of the series, the deeply decadent The Singleton 40 Year began its adventure as an aromatic 12-year-old whisky, which Maureen transferred to a series of rum casks for double maturation that took almost three decades. To enhance the base notes of delicious dark chocolate and sun-ripened fruit, the whiskies were married in precious Solera casks of Zacapa XO and Royal Rum to create a luxuriously smooth expression. This Singleton 40 year is the culmination of the journey. A maximalist in time, craft and taste.
DECADENTLY SMOOTH - The grand finale of the Epicurean Odyssey Series, The Singleton 40 year-old pushes the boundaries of taste with the longest maturation in the history of The Singleton, created by visionary craftswomen Maureen Robinson & Lorena Vasquez. Crafted to extract maximum flavour through a bold & extreme 28 year secondary maturation with a final, innovative finish in precious solera cask of Zacapa XO and Royal rum, this is a truly decadent single malt expression.
DEEP FLAVOUR - The base notes of luscious dark chocolate and sun-ripened fruits are enhanced by the time spent in rum casks, creating complex layers of flavour, suggesting pears slathered indulgently in dark chocolate and caramelised tropical fruits, as with toffee-covered banana and pineapple. Beautifully balanced and super-smooth, with sustained rich, sweet fruitiness balanced by slow-building black pepper.
SERVE SUGGESTION - Best enjoyed pure or with a few drops of ice-cold water - this gently accentuates the delicious, fresh flavours.
GIFTING IDEA - The Singleton 40 Year Old opens up a world of rich taste discovery for those looking to explore the world of experiential luxury. Whisky has long been a beautiful gift, and this special and prestigious bottling offers something unique and long-lasting, which makes it an ideal gift for whisky-lovers, collectors and enthusiasts.
Appearance
Deep amber with copper lights.
Body
Light to medium.
Nose
The nose is mellow, with a little prickle at first; fruity top notes hint at dried apple and are soon backed by a more savoury aroma evoking sage, while richer hints of fruit, soon suggesting plums enrobed in dark chocolate, sit on a balancing base of sweetly spicy oak, with light aromas of hard toffee and oak shavings. A drop of water introduces a wisp of waxy smoke.
Palate
At natural strength, the texture is decadently smooth and lightly waxy while the taste starts sweet, vibrant and very fruity, becoming slightly salty and plum-sour mid-palate. Complex layers of flavour suggest pears slathered indulgently in dark chocolate and caramelised tropical fruits, as with toffee-covered banana and pineapple. Beautifully balanced and super-smooth, with sustained rich, sweet fruitiness balanced by slow- building black pepper. Velvet smooth dark chocolate tannins herald an appetising drying note. A drop of water emphasises the fruit and softens the spice, bringing out a mouth-cooling aftertaste.
Finish
Quite long, deep-flavoured and lightly drying, with black pepper spice and another hint of waxy smoke.
