Planning your visit
Address Lagavulin Distillery Port Ellen, Isle of Islay PA42 7DZ, Scotland, UK Lagavulin Distillery is located on the south coast of the Isle of Islay, approximately two miles from the village of Port Ellen.
By Car The distillery sits just off the A846 coastal road and is easily accessible by car, with free parking available on site.
By Ferry Visitors arriving on Islay by ferry can travel from either Port Ellen or Port Askaig, while Islay Airport is a short drive away.
By Bus A local bus service stops near the distillery, and a scenic walking and cycling path connects Lagavulin with Port Ellen.
During peak seasons, particularly around the Islay Festival, taxis and transport should be booked in advance

Lagavulin aims to make the visitor experience as welcoming and accessible as possible. Accessible parking spaces are available close to the entrance, and the retail area is reachable via a ramp. Accessible toilets are also provided within the visitor centre.
Due to the historic nature of the distillery buildings, some areas of the production site include steep or narrow staircases and may not be suitable for visitors with restricted mobility. However, many tasting and visitor experiences can be adapted, and the team encourages guests to discuss any access requirements when booking so arrangements can be made where possible.
Lagavulin Distillery is committed to protecting the natural environment that shapes its whisky. The site has received Green Tourism Gold certification, recognising its commitment to sustainability, including zero-waste-to-landfill practices and water-efficient operations. Biodiversity initiatives around the distillery include bee-friendly planting, beehives and wildlife habitats designed to support local species.
Visitors may also notice environmentally conscious features such as water refill stations, bicycle racks and educational nature boards around the site. Together, these efforts reflect Lagavulin’s ongoing commitment to preserving the landscapes and ecosystems of Islay.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the visitor shop and bar areas, provided they remain on a short lead and are supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Dogs are not permitted within production areas of the distillery or on guided tours. Assistance dogs are permitted in designated areas, and the team may limit the number of dogs inside at any one time to ensure a comfortable environment for all visitors.

Die Lagavulin-Brennerei liegt an der Lagavulin Bay auf der Insel Islay vor der Westküste Schottlands. Ja. Besucher sind herzlich eingeladen, den Shop der Brennerei zu erkunden oder in der Malt Mill Bar (Dramming Room) ein Gläschen zu genießen, auch wenn sie nicht an einer Führung teilnehmen – sofern Plätze verfügbar sind.
