Port Ellen

Discover Port Ellen
Port Ellen Distillery was at risk of being lost to history despite its legendary status amongst whisky drinkers. For years after its closure in 1983, Port Ellen lay dormant and became one of the most famous examples of Scotland’s “ghost distilleries”.
However, after a massive restoration project it’s been back in operation since 2024 and has reclaimed its place among the most admired single malts.
Its flavour profile is celebrated for its mellow nose with wood ash and hints of rock salt, as well as its long peppery, smoky finish with a spicy edge.
Port Ellen Distillery Production
Thanks to a series of renovation projects, Port Ellen seamlessly blends traditional techniques with modern innovation to create its beloved whiskies.
At its heart lie The Phoenix Stills, exact replicas of the copper originals. A second pair, known as The Experimental Stills, have been specially designed to push the boundaries of distillation.
Port Ellen recycles both heat and water, which alongside the renewable-biofuel boiler make it a carbon neutral distillery.
