Cardhu has come a long way since its founding as a cottage business in 1811.
Its founders were John and Helen Cummings, who was affectionately known as ‘The First Woman of Whisky’. Later their daughter-in-law Elizabeth trademarked the Cardhu name, built a new distillery, and put the single malt well on its way to legendary status.
Cardhu is known for its distinctive notes of orchard pear, apple, and honey with a hint of spicy wood and traces of smoke.
Cardhu Distillery Production
Cardhu Distillery’s dedication to craftsmanship during production and quality of its natural surroundings make its single malt whisky truly stand out.
The distillery’s water source is the Mannoch Hill springs and Lyne Burn. It’s then mixed with lightly peated malted barley and left to ferment for around 75 hours, which is longer than many Scotch whiskies, to provide the finished product with its signature fruity profile.
As one of the best-selling single malt whiskies on the market, the annual capacity at the site is approximately 3.4 million litres per year.
