The History Of Inchgower
1824
Inchgower starts life as Tochieneal, a distillery built near Cullen by local factor, Alexander Wilson.
1870
Alexander Wilson’s nephew - confusingly called Uncle Sandy - builds a thriving business, but is forced to suspend operations when a doubling of the rent makes the small premises uneconomic to operate.
1871
Uncle Sandy moves to the coast where the rent is lower, and Inchgower is born, as a model distillery.
1910
Walter Wilson, Alexander's great, grand-nephew, takes over as managing director.
1922
The company celebrate their centenary on 12th July 1922.
1930
Around this time Alexander Wilson & Co Ltd goes into receivership and Inchgower is bought by Buckie Town Council for £1,000.
1936
The council sell the distillery to Arthur Bell & Sons
1960
Around this time capacity is doubled with the addition of two stills.
