Talisker invite you to try their Limited Edition Distillery Only bottle. With an ABV of 48%, a unique cask story and only 6000 created, it’s a rare whisky experience that one has to taste to believe. Exclusively available at the Talisker Distillery, it’s a trip worth making.
Talisker is the only Single Malt Scotch Whisky made by the sea on the shores of the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote, rugged, yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. Few whiskies tell the story of their origin better than Talisker. Its smell and taste instantly connect the drinker with the rugged environment – like a warm welcome from a wild sea. It’s a powerhouse; challenging but adored; and now, Talisker have raise the bar again on exceptional Single Malt experiences with the Distillery Only bottle.
This limited edition expression accentuates the harmony of wood and distillery character. Specially selected casks of Talisker, chosen for their aroma and flavour, have been blended together and then been allowed to marry slowly in casks that have been charred. The result is a Single Malt that is rich and sweet with a pleasant mellow background.
Here to reveal more about this rare expression is Lead Guide at the Talisker Visitor Centre, Lesley Taylor. After working in banking for 22 years, she joined the Talisker family so she can share her passion of whisky with the world. She shares essential details of this rare expression…
It’s a unique opportunity to enjoy a Talisker that is elegant and mellow while still holding onto all of the distinctive Distillery characteristics.
If sipped neat, the initial aromas suggest slight pepper on the nose but it is short lived. Soon all the other aromas to come to the fore - rich dried fruits, orchard fruits, creamy sweetness with hints of coconut and spice. The smoke is not overtly evident but is in the background.
With water, the pepper on the nose becomes more evident and the rich dried fruits take a back seat allowing the fresher orchard fruit notes to dominate along with green apples and cut grass. The smoke becomes more noticeable like the dying embers of a wood fire.
These fruity notes and subtle smoke tantalise and prepare the drinker for the full flavours to come.
Neat, the first sip introduces a bit a smoke on the palate but as this disappears the mouth becomes a kaleidoscope of flavours – rich dark fruits, citrus fruits, sweetness, spicy with slight oak notes. All these flavours culminate in a finish long with a pleasant sweet smoky aftertaste.
As with the aroma, adding a bit of water allows the smoke to become more apparent and the rich sweetness diminishes allowing the fresher fruits and spice to shine through. The finish is still long and smoky but slightly drier with hints of orchard fruits.
It doesn’t take much to enjoy this dramatic dram but it does pair beautifully with smoked Applewood cheese.
