Welcome to Clynelish Distillery

Clynelish Distillery is located on the East coast of Sutherland, around one hour north of Inverness on the scenic North Coast 500 route. With beautiful views of the North Sea and the hills to the north - where the Clynemilton burn runs over seams of gold in the rock. With this water, Clynelish distillery produces a fruity, waxy, slightly smoky, sea-spicy single malt.

For health & safety reasons, children under 8 years old are not permitted in the production areas of the distillery.

Due to the ongoing construction work on the major transformation of the Clynelish Distillery visitor experience, we have had to make the decision to close our visitor centre from January 2020 until further notice, This means that unfortunately we will no longer be able to host our tours or tasting experiences. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The story of Clynelish

Uncover the history behind the liquid

The original Clynelish was established in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford to create a market for the barley produced on his lands. Across the road is the Clynelish we know today, which was built in 1968 to make room for the larger, more modern neighbour. Old Clynelish lived on as Brora for a time, before closing in the early 80s.

A spirit of its own

Think big skies, mind-blowing landscapes, superb food and hospitable people - it really doesn't get any better if you want to escape and unwind. Unpredictable. Untameable. Unbelievable.
