A video of Oban and the surrounding areas.

Our story begins in 1794. The world has changed, but our obsession with craftsmanship, tradition, and uncompromising flavour has not.

Discover Oban

A taste of the sea crafted through a timeless legacy

For two centuries, Oban’s bustling fishing village has sat on the frontier of the West Highlands and the Islands; the place where land and sea converge. Featuring one of Scotland’s oldest licensed distilleries, the town's sheltered harbour is perfect for two things: seafaring and whisky-making.

Founded in 1794 by Hugh Stevenson, a local merchant and entrepreneur, the distillery has formed part of the town’s backbone ever since. Between 1883 and 1887 a man by the name of J. Walter Higgin made vast improvements. This was done bit by bit to keep it in production and to meet the constant demand for the single malt Scotch. Today, Oban's whisky is made using only the finest barley, malted to the distillery's particular specification, and finally distilled using lamp glass-shaped stills.
